Five Energy Saving Tips for Your Home
Energy efficiency offers dual benefits to homeowners. Not only does it reduce your carbon footprint, but it will also lower your energy bill every month. And most energy saving practices require minimal setup or effort! Here are five fantastic energy saving tips that you can enact in days:
1. Turning Off Lights
If you live in a home with many rooms, then you may have a habit of leaving the lights on throughout the house. Start to practice turning off the lights as soon as you exit a room. Homeowners who do not want their house to seem dark when they are not home can leave a single hallway or room light on!
2. Unplugging Electronics
Did you know that electronics still use small amounts of energy when they are plugged in but off? By unplugging these electronics, you can save even more energy. If you have most of your electronics plugged in through power strips, you can simply unplug or turn off the power strips when you are not using the equipment!
Same goes for battery chargers when not in use.
3. Going Solar
The only step in our list that requires a big commitment, solar energy is the best way to free yourself from the burden of electricity bills. And it will help ensure that a large portion of your energy usage each month is through the renewable resource of the sun’s energy!
4. Switching to LED Bulbs
LED light bulbs use anywhere from 30 to 80 percent less energy compared to traditional bulbs! They are also stated to last 20 to 30 times longer. Investing in high quality LED lights will ensure you do not have to replace bulbs for years, while drastically lowering your energy bill.
5. Individual Room Cooling and Heating
Install single room air conditioners or heaters. If you only spend time in one or two rooms of the house, you do not have to needlessly heat and cool rooms you do not even use! And of course, turn off the heating or cooling equipment when you leave the house.
